The Education Property Tax Credit in 2022 is a $438 credit that is available to all homeowners who meet the criteria set out by the province. As a homeowner, you must reside in the home as of January 1 of the current year, the home must not include a rental unit, and the credit cannot already be claimed by the homeowner on another property. If the home is a new build, the house must be fully assessed by the province before the credit can be applied. Even if the house was to change ownership, as long as the required criteria is met, the credit will remain on the property. If the credit is not on the property at the time of tax statement printing, homeowners may claim the credit on their personal income tax.
