Garbage & Recycling

Waste/Recycling Regulations


PLEASE NOTE: Effective immediately until October 26, 2019

Town residents may drop off branches free of charge at
Bristal Hauling, 405 Kuzenko Street, Niverville Business Park

Hours of operation:
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 7 pm, and;
Saturdays (Oct 19 & 26) 8 am – 4 pm

Proof of residency may be required.


On Collection Day please remember the following:

Prepare It - All acceptable recyclable materials must fit onto the container and the lid MUST close or the recycling cart will not be emptied. NO EXTRA MATERIAL WILL BE COLLECTED. Do not jam or pack items into your cart, items must fall freely from the cart into the truck.

Place It - Place your cart on the street with the wheels against the curb, with at least 3 feet of clearance between the cart and any obstacles. If you do not have a curb, place just off the roadway on the shoulder. Carts MUST be out by 8:00 a.m. on your collection day.

Park It - By 11:59 p.m. on your collection day, your cart must be removed from the street and returned to its storage location near your building.

**Please note: Hazardous and industrial waste (including cooking oil) are not acceptable materials in either the waste or recycling carts.


Garbage Collection System

Municipal Garbage and Recycling Pickup By-law 759-16
Garbage/Recycling must be put out by 8:00 am on Thursday mornings to ensure pickup. In the event that there is a holiday that falls on a Thursday you will be notified through the Town newsletter, website or Facebook of the alternate day for that week.

If you are aware that Town snow clearing equipment may be out clearing snow on a garbage/recycling pick up day, please place garbage and recycling bins on your driveway rather than the side of the road.


Acceptable Material for Recycling Pickup

Aluminum beverage cans and tin cans - rinse, remove labels and flatten if possible
Paper - newspapers, flyers, books, magazines, office paper, phone books, wrapping paper
Cardboard - please flatten boxes
Milk Cartons - empty, rinse & flatten
Tetra-pak juice boxes - empty, rinse & flatten
Glass & jars - please rinse and remove all caps (no broken glass)
Plastics - remove all caps and rinse containers (1, 2, 5, & 7)


Waste Transfer Site

Niverville Council recognizes that there may be occasions when residents have additional household waste that they would like to personally remove. To meet this need a waste transfer site will be opened. Bristal Hauling, located approximately one kilometer north on Sixth Avenue North has agreed to provide the service. The waste transfer site will be open each Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Fees for dumping are as follows:

Maximum of 5 bags - in vehicle or 1/2 ton truck $10
More than 5 bags of material - in vehicle or 1/2 ton truck $25
Utility trailer under 200 cubic feet $25
Level one ton truck $70
Appliance with ballast / capacitor / refrigerant present $35
Appliance without ballast / capacitor / refrigerant No Charge
Batteries No Charge
Tires No Charge
Tires W/Rim No Charge
Paint: in original can, aerosol cans No Charge
Propane tanks small camp fire tanks to BBQ tanks No Charge

For renovation projects Bristal Hauling has 6 yard rental bins at a special rental rate for Niverville residents of $150 per unit based on a three day turnaround.

Depending on the demand for a waste transfer site, Bristal Hauling will be considering installing scales so as to be able to charge based on weight. Niverville Council will be monitoring demand for the service.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

The City of Steinbach has opened a permanent hazardous waste facility at the Landfill (104 Hanover Road E) which will allow Niverville and area residents to drop off residential quantities of hazardous waste year-round. (Note commercial business will be turned away.) All hazardous material brought to the site must be in sealed, original, clearly labeled containers.   • Disinfectants, bleach, ammonia, abrasive powders, mildew & rust removers
  • Kerosene, lighter fluid
  • Paint, spray paint, lacquers, solvents, turpentine, epoxies, acrylics, wood preservatives, furniture polish / wax
  • Hair dyes, hair sprays, medicine, polish remover
  • All batteries
  • Fluorescent and CFL bulbs
  • Household cleaners: window, toilet, oven, drain, all-purpose, rug, upholstery, septic tank
  • Mothballs, rodent poison, ant & wasp spray, insecticides, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides
  • Automotive: car batteries, waxes, polishes, antifreeze, gasoline, brake & transmission fluid

Bristal Hauling (located 3/4 mile North on 6th Avenue N.) is accepting the following items at their yard: Electronics, Printers, Appliances, Cell Phones, Computers, TVs, Batteries (alkaline, cell phone, car), Propane tanks - please drop off items in their respective bins as posted.

If you have cleaners, pesticides, paint, automotive polishes, fluids, medication or other hazardous waste that you want to dispose of, check out www.greenmanitoba.ca/cim/1001.dhtm for E-Waste Depot locations/hours as well as eligible E-waste materials for drop off.

Community Composting

The Niverville compost site located at the north end of Arena Road(behind the Curling Rink) is open for Niverville residents. Please ensure that items are placed in their separate designated areas as posted on the sign in front of the concrete dividers. Please remove the plastic bags from grass clippings and leaves and place the bags in the garbage containers provided (located up against the fence, west of the grass clippings/leaves). Compost materials are limited to grass clippings and leaves. All other materials including sod, dirt, pumpkins, garden waste, pet waste, branches, etc. are not permitted. This compost area is under continuous camera surveillance. Any abuse of the composting service will be followed up through appropriate means.
