Last Month at Council

Council keeps trucking forward as we get closer to the summer months! Some highlights from April 2026 include:

  • Council approved a conditional use application for an outdoor summer market to operate on Thursdays, May to September, in the Centennial Arena Parking Lot.
  • Council held a public hearing for, and passed, the 2026 Financial Plan.
  • And more!

Last Month at Council (or LMAC for short) is designed to give residents and ratepayers of the Town of Niverville a quick look at what Council passed and approved over the last month, with helpful descriptions of terms that may not be common knowledge.

Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, Council Meeting

  • Council approved subdivision application File no. 4340-26-9244 for 155 1st Street S., subject to the developer entering into a development agreement with the Town.
  • Council set their summer meeting schedule, with meetings set for Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, at 7:00 PM and Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, at 7:00 PM.
  • Council approved payment of $508,272.70 in cheques and electronic fund transfers.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw No. 890-26, which is a bylaw to acquire land for the widening and expansion of an existing municipal road through consent expropriations.
  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw No. 889-26, which closed a public lane and a portion of 1st Street North, consolidated the land, and authorized the sale of the closed portions. This land is currently unused, undeveloped, and is no longer needed for public purposes.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw No. 891-26, which opened and widened an existing municipal road.
  • Council resolved, after following the Town’s due tendering process, that the contract for the Town’s 2026 Gravel and Topsoil Program be awarded to Barkman’s Cartage Ltd., which submitted the lowest overall bid.

 

Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, Council Meeting

  • Council held a public hearing for, and approved, Conditional Use C7-26, which was an application to change the use of 225 3rd Street North from single-family residential dwelling unit to a residential care facility, accommodating a maximum of four residents and a maximum of four on-site staff members. It was approved with the following conditions:
    • That all staff parking be fully accommodated on-site; and
    • That they maintain a Provincial Letter of Licensing in Good Standing.
  • Council held a public hearing for, and approved, Conditional Use C8-26, which was an application to allow an outdoor summer market to operate on Thursdays from May through September at the Centennial Arena parking lot, on the conditions that:
    • All food trucks must comply with the Town’s Mobile Food Service Unit Bylaw;
    • That all vendors must remove personal belongings following each event and ensure that the site is left clean and free of garbage; and
    • Businesses that would ordinarily require licensing under the Town’s Licensing of For-Profit Businesses Bylaw must comply with all applicable licensing provisions.
  • Council held a public hearing for, and approved, an application to allow the operation of a recreational vehicle and electric vehicle dealership, including limited maintenance of recreational vehicles, at Unit 2 – 535 Wittick Street in the Business Park.
  • Council approved updates to both Schedule “A” (Administration) and Schedule “F” (Planning & Development) of the Fees & Charges Bylaw No. 872-24.
  • Council approved a scope change to the PR 311 Widening from Wallace Road to Mulberry Avenue and Associated Works – Contract Administration and Post Construction Services contract with Stantec Consulting Ltd., to the amount of $34,960.90 plus GST, to include a Sood Road Flood Pumping Station Feasibility Study.
    • Did you know that Sood Road is the legal name of Wallace Road?
  • Council approved payment of $634,680.90 in cheques and electronic fund transfers.
  • Council gave second and third reading of, and passed, Bylaw No. 888-26, Niverville’s 2026 Financial Plan.
  • Council gave third reading to, and passed, Bylaw No. 890-26, which is a bylaw to acquire land for the widening and expansion of an existing municipal road through consent expropriations.
  • Council gave third reading to, and passed, Bylaw No. 891-26, which opened and widened an existing municipal road.
  • Council approved Policy HR1-26 Town Volunteers Serving on Council to ensure transparency, maintain public trust, and prevent conflicts of interest when Town volunteers who receive compensation through the Town’s payroll system are elected or appointed to Town Council.
