Parks and GreenspacesParks are for the enjoyment of all citizens. As a general rule all Town of Niverville parks are open from 6am to 10pm daily. Hespeler ParkThis 80+ acre park is named after William Hespeler, who assisted in the Mennonite settlement of southern Manitoba. Located in the south end of town, the park is home to all of the soccer pitches and our main baseball diamonds. Vehicle access is via Hespeler Park Drive off of 5th Avenue south for the soccer pitches and picnic shelter and off of Crown Valley Road for the baseball diamonds. An additional pedistrian and bicycle entrance is located on the north side. A National Historic Sites and Monuments plaque dedicated to William Hespeler is located on the North entrance to park. Dedicated in 2004, this plaque honours William Hespeler's committment and contributions to the settlement of Manitoba as well as his contributions as Consulate. Started in 2009, a master plan for the future development of Hespeler Park will be developed throughout 2010. This plan will lay the groundwork for all future development and ensure that Hespeler Park remains an inclusive amenity for the entire community as well as becoming a destination point. Integration of the former lagoon site will also be included in the plan. FairgroundsLocated on Arena Road, the fairgrounds is an open greenspace. A small neighbourhood playground is located on the south end as well as rodeo grounds on the north end. Additionally, there is an RV park with serviced and unserviced spots available on a first come first serve basis (call the town office to reserve). This is also the site of the community composting dropoff area for leaves, grass and branches. Community ParksThere are a variety of community or pocket parks throughout town. Opa's Park is located on the north end of Roselawn Bay and can be accessed via a walkway on Roselawn Bay or a walkway on the northwest corner of Edelweiss Crescent. The Spruce Drive pocket park is located on the old location of Spruce Drive and Fifth Avenue. The Third Street Tot Park is located on Third Street North and Fourth Avenue North. Crow Wing TrailThe Crow Wing Trail is a part of the Manitoba Recreational Trails Association. The trail is based on the historic trail that linked the early community of Winnipeg with the trading centre of St Paul Minnesota. The actual route followed ridges along the Red River through what is today the RM of Richot, Town of Niverville and south through to the US Border. CemetariesThere are two cemetaries in use within the the town of Niverville. The Niverville Heritage Cemetary is located on Main Street, adjacent to the elementary school. The Centotaph is also located here and a walk through will show you names of some of Niverville's founding families. On the south end of town, just into the RM of Hanover is the old cemetary. Nestled among the trees, there is much history here as well, including the family plot of the first Reeve, Gerhard Kleiwer, of the RM of Hespeler (later renamed Hanover). |
