Niverville Historical Commission

The town of Niverville has a rich and varied history. Due to the town location near the Red River and on the edge of the East Reserve of the Mennonite settlements, Niverville's history includes contributions by many groups including the French settlers, the Metis, the Scottish settlers and the Mennonites from both big immigration waves. To the present, Niverville continues to be a culturally diverse and open community.

Niverville was the site of federal immigration housing and processing facilities in the late 1800's as many of the new settlers arrived via riverboat from Eastern Canada. The original crow wing trail and the St Paul trail also ran through town, making Niverville a well known stop.

The Niverville Historical Commission collects and maintains photos and other items of significance related to Niverville's history. To donate items or images, please contact the Town Office.
