Town Administration

The administrative staff at the Town of Niverville office are typically your first point of contact for any questions related to Town Services and procedures. This could include things such as the payment of taxes, recycling and garbage collection, animal control services, or questions regarding by-laws. The Town staff are also available and often have access to information regarding other 3rd party services such as music lessons, fitness classes or various social clubs.

In accordance with the Municipal Act of Manitoba which governs how all towns and muncipalities need to operate, the Town of Niverville has a variety of by-laws that deal with various subjects including items such as parking, development, noise restrictions and fire standards. These by-laws are adapted, added to and rescinded as a need is seen by council often through community feedback.

Some of these by-laws deal with various licenses and permits. These may be licenses for business, pets or other requirements or things such as building and development permits. If you are planning a renovation or considering building any structure on your property, it is advisable to seek advice from the staff on any permits that may be required or any restrictions that may be imposed.

Like all municipalities, the main source of funding for operations is derived from property taxes. A typical tax bill will include municipal taxes which are kept within the revenue of the municipality and school taxes which are collected for and distributed to the school division. Taxes are levied based on an apportioned assessement, or a portion of the market value of the property. The assessment value is set by the provincial governement via the assessment branch of the InterGovernmental Affairs department and can be appealed on set dates annually. Traditionally, these values attempt to reflect the market value of the property as it would have been 3 years ago.

The town also administers a variety of utility services including sewer services and water services in some areas. The town administration is also the liason with various utility companies including MTS, Manitoba Hydro and Shaw Cable for matters dealing with infrastructure, availablity and consistency of service.
